ClimatePRO
Background

The ‘Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA)’ of which the ClimatePRO project is a part aims at building climate resilient agricultural practices in Odisha - one of India’s climate vulnerable states. The specific objective of the projects is to showcase climate-smart agricultural practices within an irrigation command covering approximately 56,400 hectares across 538 minor irrigation projects. Additionally, the OIIPCRA project also aims to benefit around 70,000 hectares of rain-fed areas within the influence zones of these minor irrigation projects, thereby enhancing the capacity and income of farmers in the targeted regions.

By synergizing the efforts of DA&FE, DoWR, and the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (DFARD), the project endeavors to promote climate-resilient agricultural techniques, ultimately empowering farmers and fostering sustainable development in the project area.

ClimtePRO, led by IRRI, contributes to the achievement of the following OIIPCRA outcome indicators:

  1. Improving crop productivity.
  2. Motivating farmers to adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices and technologies for both adaptation and mitigation.
  3. Encouraging diversification, especially during the Rabi (winter) season and for some areas under upland rice kharif (monsoon).
