Development and popularization of gender-responsive and context-specific climate- smart agriculture systems and practices through model villages

One model village per district will be established to demonstrate holistic and landscape scale evidence-based climate smart agricultural technologies and practices, while being inclusive and gender-responsive. We plan to conduct a systematic climate risk and vulnerability assessment to develop typologies of household groups, paying particular attention to gender and youth dimensions. This will be followed by a participatory mapping of agri-food systems and systematic participatory foresight analysis to identify anticipated plausible future scenarios and pathways to the desired scenarios will be co-designed with stakeholders. These villages will serve as demonstration sites for farmer-to-farmer learning (through self-help groups or producer organizations) and/or enable local promotion of CSA options through local government plans, programs, and policies or through private-sector business models.

Employing systematic MEL and strategic research to understand the effectiveness and impact of the packages of interventions, strategies for scaling these villages will be developed. This research and lessons learned will provide evidence for the efficacy of practices, technologies, services, processes, and institutional options to inform large-scale CSA investment plans; promote mainstreaming of institutional changes; and/or inform policy instruments.
